Winners of a colouring-in and art competition aimed at highlighting the importance of keeping children safe were announced in Wyndham and Kununurra this month.

The competition was rolled out in local schools by the Department for Child Protection and the National Association for Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect, in honour of National Child Protection week in September.

The nine winners were chosen from a pool of colourful entries.

Wyndham District High School's three winners were announced at their assembly on Friday.

Ella Haynes, Jaydean Carlton and Mavis Thomas each received a prize for the under-6 respective divisions most colourful, most creative and judge's choice.

Kununurra District High School students received their prize pack at an assembly two weeks ago.

In the 6-10 year-old category, Hayley Goldup, Chloe Mesken and Lilly Darby took out respective awards for most colourful, most creative and judge's choice.

KDHS students Grace Simpson, Gabrielle Dobson and Reilly Reese also received prizes for the three respective categories in the over-10 category.

Children in the younger age groups of under-6 and 6-10 coloured in a template and were asked to name a person who helped keep them safe by listening to them.

Children over 10 drew their own picture to the theme of a person who helps keep them safe.

Each winner received a $200 game and art pack.
