Community members rolled up their sleeves on Friday to repair damage to the Ar Rukun Mosque after a vandalism attack last week.

Rockingham man Wayne Ryan said helpers wanted to help spiritual adviser Sheikh Bahaadin Penjwerry clear all traces of paint, which was thrown at the entrance of the Attwood Way centre last week, before the Muslim community arrived for Friday prayers.

He said the group would scrape, chisel and power-wash for as long as it took to restore the building.

"Everyone who lives in our community deserves respect," he said.

"We've known the Sheikh for about four years - it is great to have someone like him within the community."

Brand MHR Gary Gray denounced the vandalism as a "cowardly act".
