Teens charged over home invasion

Police have charged three teenagers over an attack on an 87-year-old man in his Cannington home on Tuesday.

Fillip Mallozzi was asleep on his couch in his Stockman Way in Cannington when three offenders broke in about 4pm.

One of the group was allegedly armed with a knife and threatened the grandfather of three, demanding to know where he kept his money.

The thugs spent approximately 40 minutes ransacking the home before leaving on foot. Police believe they were last seen walking towards Queens Park train station.

Fillip’s son Charles said the assault had left his father in shock.

“My father is nearly 88-years of age, he’s trying to live his last few days comfortably in his own environment, in his own house and to be confronted at knife point like this, is really traumatic and (it’s) pathetic that situations like this happen.

“He’s totally distraught and he doesn’t want to be home by himself anymore, it’s taken away that independence from him,” he said.

“He’s pretty quiet, he’s pretty shocked about it, he hasn’t slept all night, keeps waking up with the events of the day and I’m sure in his mind, it’s not very comforting.”

Det-Const Luke Wood from Kensington Detectives said the attack against Mr Mallozzi was nothing short of disgusting.

“Police are disgusted that these males have targeted such a vulnerable member of the community, being an 87-year-old man, who is quite gentle and frail, we’re not very happy about it,” he said.

Three teenagers have been charged over the incident.

A 15-year-old boy from Langford has been charged with aggravated burglary while a 15-year-old Seville Grove Boy has been charged with aggravated burglary and deprivation of liberty.
