Brand's sick Prince George joke
Comedian Russell Brand has come under fire from a child protection charity after he made a sick joke about young British royal Prince George.
The Forgetting Sarah Marshall star told a controversial gag about the son of Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge in his new book Revolution, confirming his anti-monarchy status by writing, "I note that if that baby royal they've just done in Blighty were to ascend the throne he'd be George the Seventh. Seventh?! We've already had six and we're gonna have another one. How long do we intend to let this silliness persist? Surely it's time for us to invest in a (toy brand) Fisher Price guillotine."
The comment has infuriated activists in Britain, with Peter Saunders, chief executive of the National Association for People Abused in Childhood, telling Britain's Mail on Sunday newspaper, "He (Brand) should know better than to speak in this way about people who destroy the lives of children."
Member of Parliament for the Conservative Party, Michael Ellis, adds, "To make a nauseating reference to the execution of a small child will disgust all right-thinking people. Brand should be treated with the contempt he deserves."
