With a raft of audacious finance plays coinciding with the emergence of tech-based businesses and a softer resources sector, the job of identifying the year's most influential local business leader has been a difficult one.

The high-profile executives tasked with selecting the WA Business Leader of the Year for the 2014 AIM WA/WestBusiness Pinnacle Awards have been working to separate one stand-out business figure from a deep pool of corporate talent.

The WA Business Leader of the Year will be unveiled on Thursday, November 27 at the 2014 Pinnacle Awards gala dinner at Crown Perth.

The winner will be announced at the end of an evening which will also see outstanding local businesses recognised for excellence in eight different fields.

Each category winner and the WA Business Leader of the Year will be given $10,000 to donate to a charity of their choice, making the 2014 AIM WA/WestBusiness Pinnacle Awards one of the State's premier philanthropic events.

"With the exceptional level of Western Australian business talent nominated for the 2014 awards, judges had a particularly difficult task in determining a single winner from the nominees," Australian Institute of Management WA chief executive Gary Martin said.

Professor Martin said the judging panel, chaired by AIM WA president and Hollywood Private Hospital chief executive Peter Mott, was presented with a range of talent drawn from across the corporate, government and community sectors.

"Judges gave consideration to a range of factors including nominees' exemplary leadership of their organisations as well as the outstanding contribution made to the broader Western Australian community," Professor Martin said.

"They were particularly inspired by the range of qualities demonstrated by nominees, including their innovation in business leadership, their absolute commitment to advancing business in Western Australia, and the importance of giving back to the Western Australian community."
