Trio swim for lives after boat sinks

Three people swam to safety after their boat sank off Esperance this morning.

Police received a report at 11.10am that a catarmaran had capsized about 300m off Wylie Beach and three men were attempting to swim to shore in a strong current.

Two vessels from Esperance Sea Search and Rescue Group were sent to the area while police searched the beach, where all three men were located safe and well.

They told police the 5.5m catamaran experienced mechanical problems before it was swamped by a wave that caused it to capsize and sink.
