Rice returns with first album in 8 years

The long-awaited new album by Irish singer-songwriter Damien Rice will be released in November.

My Favourite Faded Fantasy is Rice's first collection of material in eight years and was produced by Rice and Rick Rubin.

Rice's seminal O album sold 2.5 million copies worldwide, won the Short-list Prize, spent 10 weeks on the Billboard 200 and spent 80 weeks in the UK charts.

This was followed by the Brit-nominated album 9, released in 2006.

The title track from My Favourite Faded Fantasy was given its world premiere on BBC Radio 1 this week. The first single taken from the album will be I Don't Want to Change you, which will premiere this month.

"Sometimes you have to step away from what you love in order to learn how to love it again," Rice said about the long gap between albums.

The recording process with producer Rubin began in Los Angeles and finished in Iceland.

"I came to Rick mostly based on what I didn't know about him, rather than what I did," Rice said.

"For some reason I just had a feeling that I would feel comfortable being open and being me and being vulnerable with Rick."
