Kanye is king of the West

Only one rapper could turn Perth Arena into a sweaty moshpit to put most rock and metal gigs to shame.

And that rapper is Kanye West, who blew away more than 12,000 fans at the first Australian concert of his Yeezus Tour tonight.

The 37-year-old hip-hopper, fashionista, entrepreneur, freshly minted family man and self-professed genius hit the stage galloping with the industrial Black Skinhead.

West, face was covered by a bejewelled mask made by Belgian fashion designer Martin Margiela, spat aggressive rhymes in front of a gigantic square obelisk that lit up red and got fans' blood racing.

The show - one man and one microphone on catwalk, backed by a DJ and keyboardist to the side - was as stripped back and brutal as his latest and sixth album, Yeezus.

Fan favourites such as Power, Stronger and Blood on the Leaves, which samples the classic Strange Fruit, dominated the front half of the bombastic performance.

The ego could not be contained, however, and West derailed the show for a few minutes with a rant about his sneaker brand.

The original dates in May were postponed so that West could marry professional famous person Kim Kardashian, who flew into Perth last night with their daughter North just in time to catch the show.

Kanye's wife Kim Kardashian watches the show.

Her husband arrived on Thursday afternoon and sweated out any jet lag with a game of basketball at East Victoria Park's Leisure Life Centre yesterday morning. The Yeezus Tour continues in Adelaide tonight
