A kitten has been rescued from a drain in Perth's southern suburbs after firefighters flushed it out with a hose.

The Armadale local police team were on patrol on Monday when they found a man laying in a gutter, listening to a meowing kitten.

West Australian Police said on Facebook that a senior officer delegated his "slightly younger, good looking partner" down the drain to assess the situation.

The officer found the kitten in the middle of a drain pipe two metres under the road but the kitten resisted attempts to rescue it.

"Better looking" firefighters then arrived and flushed the kitten out of the drain with a hose, WA Police said.

A local resident is looking after the kitten.
