Spring sparkle at our top spot

It's often the first place we take first-time visitors to Perth and it's where many of us choose to celebrate special occasions such as Christmas Day or Australia Day.

The Kings Park Festival kicks off on Monday and this year Perth's much-loved patch of greenery has an extra special reason to celebrate.

It was recently voted by TripAdvisor as the sixth best park in the world, beating the famous Luxembourg Garden in Paris and Barcelona's beloved Guell Park.

"Not that local people necessarily take the park for granted, but we often get beautiful emails from people who have moved away and then come back, or have brought visitors here who have seen it with fresh eyes and who do say how lucky we are to have this space in the middle of the city," Kings Park festival director Rebecca Maddern said.

This year the Kings Park Festival features a series of live Santos Sunday concerts, including a performance by singer Christine Anu on Father's Day to officially launch the event.

The festival runs until September 30.
