Mid West council to re-hang Harris painting

Dalwallinu shire council appears to have forgiven sexual predator Rolf Harris, whose attacks on four girls left them feeling "disgusting" and "worthless".

The council voted to re-hang a Harris painting in the Oval Room in the town’s recreation centre.

The Dalwallinu painting was removed amid widespread shock over Harris' conviction.

Several Perth councils removed paintings, plaques and other commemorative tributes to the entertainer.

The council was told that since it was removed there had been furious argument through letters, emails and the local newsletter, for and against the removal of the painting.

There had even been offers to purchase the painting.

An officer’s report said that whatever decision, “not everyone would be pleased” but having the painting in storage had “zero benefit”.

Two options were put to the council: reinstate the painting or sell it by public tender.

The council voted six-two, to reinstate the painting.
