Pilot dies in Kimberley chopper crash

A helicopter similar to the one that crashed.

A helicopter pilot has died in a crash near Halls Creek in the Kimberley.

The Robinson R-22 helicopter was flying between Springvale and Yeeda stations yesterday but failed to return when expected at 6pm.

Three helicopters searched the area but failed to find the missing helicopter yesterday.

However the helicopter was found this morning about 7.30 crashed and burnt-out.

The 34-year old pilot was deceased.

Police said they would prepare a report for the Coroner and the Civil Aviation Safety Authority and the Australian Transport Safety Bureau will investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
