First look at new Dockers HQ

First pictures of the $100 million recreation hub, which will become the Fremantle Dockers’ new headquarters, have been released.

The City of Cockburn has released artists’ impressions of the new Cockburn Central West development, showing waterslides and swimming pools alongside the Dockers’ new oval.

The development, set to start construction in February, will also include a water playground, function rooms and recovery pools as well as training and administration areas and a store for the football club.

There are also plans for on-site training for Curtin University sports science and exercise physiology students.

Cockburn Mayor Logan Howlett has described the facility as one of the biggest projects undertaken by a WA council and “one of the best facilities in Australia”.

“It will increase local employment, bring more visitors to the area but importantly cater for our growing community and their needs,” Mr Howlett said.

The Federal Government has contributed $10 million and the State Government $12.4 million to the facility.

The Dockers are due to move to the facility in time for the start of the 2017 season.
