Charity rider dies in crash with truck

Motorcyclists in a charity ride were yesterday mourning the death of a Busselton rider who died in a crash with a truck in Mullewa yesterday.

Motorcyclist Les James was taking part in the fundraising Black Dog Ride when his bike collided with the truck on the Geraldton-Mount Magnet Road at about 9.40am.

St John Ambulance paramedics rushed Mr James to hospital but he was pronounced soon after arriving.

The ride's spokesman Michael Field said the riders were shaken by Mr James' death which happened as he took part in a trip around Australia to raise money for the prevention of depression and suicide.

Mr Field said Mr James had been involved in the ride for several years.

Mr James is survived by his wife and adult children.

"Within the Black Dog Ride community he was an incredibly respected fellow and showed the huge commitment he had to the cause," he said.

Mr Field said some motorcyclists may not continue with the ride after Mr James' death.
