Officer's nervous wait after needle injury

A male police officer faces a nerve-racking wait for results after he was pricked by a needle during a scuffle in Geraldton last night.

Police were called to a disturbance on Gertrude Street about 11.30pm.

They arrested a 23-year-old woman on arrival, but the woman allegedly put up a struggle.

During the struggle, the officer received a needle prick to his leg.

The woman was allegedly in possession of the needle.

The officer was taken to Geraldton Regional Hospital where he underwent testing.

A police spokeswoman said the officer now faces another three months of testing and treatment.

The 23-year-old woman has been charged with breaching bail, street drinking and disorderly conduct.

She is due to face Geraldton Magistrates Court this morning.
