Explosive end to gelignite find
Police bomb response officers have detonated sticks of unstable gelignite almost 24 hours after the dangerous explosives were discovered in the front yard of a Kalgoorlie property.
Residents in the suburb of Somerville were evacuated from their homes and streets were closed after the explosives were found at 4.20pm yesterday.
A specialist bomb robot was used to move the gelignite sticks to a containment pit where they were detonated at about 3.30pm today.
Police investigations are continuing.
