Friends of George Michael reportedly fear he is living as a hermit after his collapse this year.

The former Wham! singer was admitted to hospital in May after falling ill at his London home and now several friends and neighbours are worried about his wellbeing.

He is said to rarely leave his house and only one friend, record producer David Austen, is seen visiting, according to neighbours.

"People are worried sick about him. He's just cut himself off from everyone," a friend told UK newspaper The Sunday People.

Another added: "He hasn't been seen out for months, he's self-conscious about the scars on his throat and head . . . and he's put on weight."

Michael was scarred during a near-fatal car accident last year, when he fell out of a moving vehicle on a highway.

Yet another source said the 51-year-old's split from long-time love Kenny Goss may be to blame.

"Since splitting from Kenny and all his problems, he's just gone off the radar," the insider said. "It was really down to Kenny that he was actually out - even if it was just going to the cinema locally or for a meal."
