Season blooms for Ellery

All eyes will be on Perth-raised designer *Kym Ellery *when her new collection takes centre stage at David Jones' spring/ summer fashion launch in front of an exclusive group of A-listers from the worlds of fashion, music and film this week.

"As always I'm very excited to see the season. It's especially always really nice to see everyone's work collectively in one show," Ellery told Access All Areas in the lead-up to Wednesday's event in Sydney.

Ellery, whose celebrity clientele includes Madonna, Cate Blanchett and Gwyneth Paltrow, will be joined at the launch by a muse who inspires her designs and embodies the spirit of her eponymous brand.

Acclaimed model Rachel Rutt was the obvious choice for the role in Ellery's eyes because the pair have formed a strong friendship since meeting in 2008.

The designer said she admired Rutt's individuality and overall approach to the industry.

"She's just a cool, normal girl with a good attitude and that's what I like to see in the women who wear our brand," Ellery said. "We've known each other some time and it's really nice to watch her blossom into an accomplished young woman who has such a unique style and she's creative and has her own point of view.

"That's very much why we chose to work with her for this season.

"I was interested to dress Rachel as well because she's quite bohemian in her natural sense of style and Ellery is a lot cleaner and sharper so it's exciting for me to see her wear our garments and have her dress in a new way."

Rutt will be dressed in pieces from Ellery's spring/summer 2014/15 collection, which debuted earlier in the year at Paris Fashion Week.

"The collection that we will be showing at David Jones we showed at Paris in a presentation for Paris Fashion Week, so that was really exciting for us," Ellery said.

"It is a collection that was inspired somewhat by Zoroastrianism so we looked at paisley as that is a key motif in the religion."
