Prisoner recaptured after getting bogged
UPDATE 11.25am: Acacia Prison remains in lockdown after the recapture of a prisoner who escaped this morning.
Brett Shannon Klimczak, 31, was recaptured hours after breaking out of the medium-security prison.
Serco managing director Paul Mahoney said the organisation regretted the incident and stated it was the first escape from Acacia since Serco took over operations 10 years ago.
"We are conducting a thorough investigation, working with WA Police and the Department of Corrective Services," he said
"No further information will be released until the investigation is complete and a report has been provided to the Commissioner of Corrective Services.
"Our priority is the safety of the community and we provided WA Police with assistance as they sought to recapture the individual."
Klimczak was recaptured after his car became bogged on Toodyay Road and Wilson Road in Jane Brook.
He is currently in Royal Perth Hospital being treated for injuries it is believed he sustained during his escape from Acacia.
Once Klimczak is released from hospital, he will be taken to the Regional Investigations Unit.
Acacia is WA’s only privately managed prison and is owned by the Department of Corrective Services, which contracts management of the facility to Serco.
The medium-security prison is 55km east of Perth.
Its "open-plan, campus-style design" allows prisoners to move around within the complex "fairly freely", Acacia's website states.

It is not the first time Klimczak has escaped from prison.
In 2010, he was less than halfway through a seven-year sentence for motor vehicle thefts and aggravated burglary when he stole a firefighting vehicle at Wooroloo Prison Farm and smashed his way through a gate.
Klimczak spent three weeks on the run after escaping from prison in 2010, initially heading into the Wheatbelt before turning back to Perth.
In 2010, he was working nights when he was captured on CCTV driving off after filling his stolen ute with fuel and raiding a hardware store, carting off thousands of dollars worth of power tools.
He was involved in a dangerous high-speed chase, during which he ran red lights and drove on the wrong side of the road, rammed a police car and hit a tree before running off.
He stole another car in Mandurah and headed to Collie before making a run for freedom through the North West, eluding police by taking back roads.
Police tracked him to Fitzroy Crossing where a roadblock was set up across the highway at Halls Creek.
Klimczak was seen beside a car with a flat tyre on Great Northern Highway, but escaped into bushland during a 38C day.
Members of the community contacted police the next day to say he was trying to get water and a car.
A spokesman for Serco said this morning the company was investigating how the escape might have occurred.
The incident is the latest in a series of bungles for the British firm.
Serco was fined $242,000 this year after a dangerous rapist and another prisoner escaped during a prisoner transfer near Geraldton.
The company also agreed to pay more than $180,000 to reimburse police for the cost of their recapture.
