UPDATE: Jordan Samardali, WA's sole boxer in Glasgow, is one fight from a Commonwealth Games medal after his second win in three days.

The 81kg fighter from Mullaloo claimed a 2-1 split decision victory over Samoa's Afaese Hugo Fata Kalepi in the last 16 on Sunday.

In a scrappy bout fought largely out of range, Samardali and Fata Kalepi shared the first two rounds, before the busier Australian did just enough for two of the judges to take the final round, while a third judge went for the Samoan.

Samardali, who beat St Lucia's Ryan Charles on Friday, will fight Kennedy St Pierre of Mauritius in the light-heavyweight quarter-final on Tuesday (early Wednesday morning WST).

Earlier on Sunday, Tasmania's Nick Cooney lost to Scotland's Charlie Flynn 3-0 in the 60kg light-welterweight class.

But NSW heavyweight (91kg) Jai Opetaia claimed a unanimous points win against Samoan Filimaua Hala.
