Fatima's parents at MH17 crash site

The parents of Fatima Dyczynski, who was a passenger on Malaysia Airlines flight MH17, have arrived at the crash site.

Perth couple George Dyczynski and Angela Rudhart-Dyczynski looked over the wreckage of the crashed aircraft in Ukraine today.

The parents of the 25-year-old aerospace engineer crossed territory held by pro-Russian rebels to reach the wreckage-strewn farm fields.

The couple broke down in tears as they walked among the wreckage and scorched earth and laid a large bouquet of flowers on part of the debris.

They had arrived on a minibus at the separatist-held zone, ignoring their government’s safety warnings.

The Federal Government had warned against travel to the war-torn region of Donetsk, citing “ongoing violence and a highly volatile security situation”.

Still wearing a custom-made T-shirt with his daughter’s face and the words "We love you", Dr Dyczynski and his wife were confronted with the horror of the wreckage.

"We have promised our daughter we will come here," Mrs Rudhart-Dyczynski said.

The pair visited a memorial for MH17 victims outside Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport on Thursday.

Dr Dyczynski had said they wanted to fly on to Donetsk in eastern Ukraine where they hoped to search the crash site for their daughter.

“We believe she’s alive,” Dr Dyczynski said. “Did you see the CNN report about the mobile phones? So we go.

“Today we fly to Donetsk and we find her.”

Miss Dyczynski intended to start an internship with IBM in Perth this week. She was also set to fulfil her dream of becoming a permanent Australian resident.
