A truck driver had a lucky escape in Bunbury this morning after his vehicle crashed through a barrier and was left hanging over the edge of a bridge.

Emergency authorities were called to the Preston River Bridge, on Estuary Road, about 7.45am.

It is understood the driver was able to scramble out of the cab and back on to the bridge.

A police spokeswoman said it would take a couple of hours to remove the truck.

Pollution containment booms have been deployed to stop the fuel spreading throughout the river.
