Edgerton sets scene at CinefestOZ

Fast-rising Hollywood star Joel Edgerton will walk the red carpet at this year's CinefestOZ, the Busselton-based festival that has become a magnet for top Australian film talent.

Edgerton is coming to WA to support his latest film Felony, a crime thriller directed by Matthew Saville, of Cloudstreet fame, and one of six finalists in CinefestOZ's inaugural $100,000 prize.

Edgerton first caught our attention in the television series The Secret Life of Us. He has gone on to appear in a series of high-profile Australian and American movies such as Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones and Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, Kinky Boots, Animal Kingdom, Warrior, Wish You Were Here, The Great Gatsby and Zero Dark Thirty.

Edgerton's international profile will soar in the coming months with the biggest role of his career playing Rhamses in Ridley Scott's biblical epic Exodus: Gods and Kings alongside Christian Bale and Aaron Paul.

CinefestOZ deputy chair Helen Shervington said the festival was honoured to welcome the actor to the South West.

"Joel is a highly respected actor not only in Australia but across the world and it is wonderful that he will be joining us at CinefestOZ," Ms Shervington said. "The Film Prize is an integral part of this year's program and to have one of the major stars walk the red carpet ahead of the WA premiere of one of the finalists is very exciting."

The winner announced on the festival's closing night.
