WA's mark of respect

Premier Colin Barnett signs a condolence book.

West Australians can now sign condolence books to express sympathies for the victims of MH17.

Premier Colin Barnett said the books would be available at Parliament House, Council House, the State Library and the Constitutional Centre from today.

Messages can also be submitted to the Department of Premier and Cabinet's website www.dpc. wa.gov.au for those unable to get to the city sites.

Mr Barnett said the entire nation was still in a sense of shock, dismay and sadness at the tragic loss of life.

He said the WA Police disaster victim identification unit, which has skills garnered from terror attacks in Bali and the Christmas Island asylum seeker boat crash, were on stand-by to assist the recovery effort in Ukraine.

"Decisions about that are made by the Federal Government, but WA Police have been asked to be prepared," Mr Barnett said.

"This has been an incredibly harrowing experience, I think, for all of us."
