Thieves target ATMs

Police are investigating whether two attempted ATM robberies in Perth's southern suburbs are linked.

The would-be thieves attempted to open the ATMs in Safety Bay and South Lake using a crowbar or similar item.

In Safety Bay, an alarm was set off at a service station on Safety Bay Road at about 2.20am.

About two hours later, the offenders forced their way into a shopping centre on North Lake Road, South Lake and targeted an ATM.

In both incidents, the offenders were unable to access cash from the machines.

Police say the offenders left South Lake in a vehicle.

Officers are continuing their investigations into the incidents.
