Setback for Quinnie

Champion WA pacer Im Themightyquinn has been narrowly beaten after a hard run in fast time when tackling tonight's Mercedes Benz Centenary Classic (2138m) at Brisbane course Albion Park.

Suave Stuey Lombo ($2.40) rated 1:54.7 to win by 1.2m from favourite Im Themightyquinn ($1.50), who was driven by young Queensland reinsman Pete McMullen.

Devil Dodger ($55.10) finished 21m back in third place.

Im Themightyquinn's usual reinsman Gary Hall Jr will resume driving him at Albion Park in next Saturday's $100,000 Blacks A Fake Championship (2680m).

McMullen, taking his first race drive behind the Perth star, dropped him out from gate seven and settled last in a nine-horse field. He made a three-wide move to race outside pacemaker Suave Stuey Lombo from the bell.

NSW pacer Suave Stuey Lombo, driven by Lauren Panella went close to Albion Park's 2138m record, which stands at 1:54.1.

Hall had WA commitments and returned home after driving Im Themightyquinn when he brilliantly won the Sunshine Sprint (1660m) with a 1:50.4 rate at Albion Park in his Queensland debut last Saturday.

He broke the track 1660m record which was previously held by Suave Stuey Lombo.
