Man faces court on 15-year rape count

An accused rapist who left Perth while on bail awaiting trial more than 15 years ago will face court today after being extradited from Queensland.

The man and his teenage brother allegedly sexually assaulted a neighbour in 1998 after she let them stay overnight at her northern suburbs house.

Police claim the pair returned home drunk and knocked on the woman's door, telling her they could not get into their house.

She let them stay on a couch but allegedly woke to find the younger man holding her down and his brother raping her.

The older man was charged at the time with aggravated sexual penetration without consent and deprivation of liberty.

He allegedly failed to attend a court appearance and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

He was tracked to his new home in Queensland last year and detectives extradited him last month to face the original charges and a breach of bail.

The man, now in his mid-40s, was remanded in custody at his first appearance in Joondalup Magistrate's Court. He will re- appear there today.
