A 41-year-old man who allegedly threatened a Victoria Park security guard with a syringe has been remanded in custody.

Police allege the man, from Port Kennedy, used a syringe to threaten the guard at the Albany Highway shopping centre on Wednesday afternoon before throwing it at him.

The guard avoided the projectile and, with public assistance, restrained the man until police arrived.

The man has been charged with threats to injure, endanger or harm, being armed in a way to cause fear, assault and possessing a prohibited drug.

He is due to reappear in Perth Magistrate’s Court on July 17.
