Fresh from winning reality modelling search The Face Australia, Olivia Donaldson is now vying for a place on one of the country's most prestigious catwalks.

The 20-year-old Kalgoorlie stunner was one of about 300 elite models who strutted their stuff in Sydney yesterday for the chance to join the runway line-up for David Jones' latest spring/summer season launch, which will take place later this month.

A panel including former Miss Universe Australia and swimwear model Rachael Finch, Jets designer Jessika Allen and stylist Kelvin Harries had the tough task of assessing the talent, who not only had to prove they could tear up the catwalk but also show they could carry a swimsuit with confidence.

"It is the very first time the models will be casting in their swimwear, so it is very exciting," Finch told Access All Areas before the event.

"While it is also quite daunting for the younger models to be in swimwear for their first time on the runway, I think it could really lead them into an incredible phase in their career because it is such a great opportunity to walk for David Jones. It could take them to the next level."

As a long-time ambassador for Speedo, Finch added the key to feeling secure in wearing next to nothing was all about positivity.

"I think you just really need to be yourself and have fun," the mother of one said.

"Don't take it too seriously - be natural and smile and have a really positive attitude."

Should Donaldson make it through the casting process, she will appear on the runway alongside David Jones ambassador and fellow WA girl Jessica Gomes, who will return from her base in Los Angeles for the glittering showcase on July 30.

High-profile Perth faces such as Nicole Trunfio, Megan Gale and Gemma Ward have also paraded for the retail giant in the past.

Donaldson moved to Sydney earlier this year to pursue her modelling dreams after rising to prominence on Foxtel's The Face.
