Council merger legal fight begins

A Supreme Court legal challenge against the State Government's bid to cut the number of local councils will be launched today.

Lawyer John Hammond said the application for a judicial review would be lodged against Local Government Minister Tony Simpson and the Local Government Advisory Board. Vincent resident Ian Ker, the cities of South Perth and Subiaco and the Shire of Serpentine-Jarrahdale are taking the action.

Mr Hammond said the application would challenge the amalgamation and abolition of councils.
