Alana the new face of country carnivals

Alana McLean has been appointed the first Face of WA Country Cups in a joint launch by Racing and Wagering WA and Tourism WA to promote what have become popular carnivals in regional areas.

Ms McLean was chosen because of her love of all things fashion and racing, along with her appetite for all things social.

The Country Cups campaign promotes the Broome, Kalgoorlie and Bunbury cup rounds.

Ms McLean will start at Broome Cup week, attending the Cable Sounds concert on August 10, then a Ladies' Day debut at the running of the Mungrup Stud Classic, run at Broome's ocean-side beach racetrack on August 12.

"This is a fantastic opportunity to be involved in an initiative that promotes everything regional racing has to offer," Ms McLean said.

"A perfect day at the races combines fun, fashion, socialising and the excitement of watching champion athletes on the track."

Racing in the Kimberley, Goldfields and South West contributes $64 million a year to State revenue.

The Kimberley region alone has five thoroughbred clubs.

One in every 78 people in the Kimberley has an involvement in the racing industry.

Australian rock legend Paul Kelly will start off the Broome race round with a concert at Cable Beach Amphitheatre on August 10.
