A man is fighting for life after a serious car crash in the Great Southern last night.

The man, who is understood to be 30 years old, was with one other person in a car travelling along Broomehill-Kojonup Road, near Katanning, when they crashed into a tree at about 9pm.

The pair had to be cut from the wreckage by local volunteer firefighters.

The RAC Rescue Helicopter flew the man to Royal Perth Hospital where he remains in a critical condition today.

The extent of the other person’s injuries is not yet known.

In a separate incident, a 27-year-old man received serious head injuries after the car he was travelling in crashed into a tree in Tuart Hill last night.

The man was a passenger in a white Hyundai Excel hatchback travelling west along Cape Street when the car left the road and struck the tree at about 11pm.

Police have yet to speak to the driver.
