Site evacuated over old sea-mine

A Bullsbrook landfill site was evacuated today after what was believed to be a sea mine was discovered in the rubble of a demolished house.

The tip, off Great Northern Highway, was cordoned off as the Australian Defence Force explosive ordnance services (WA) examined the item.

It was later confirmed as an inert Mk XIV mine and the area declared safe.

Defence spokesman Gary Booth asked people who come across suspicious items to not handle them but report them to police.
