Driver receives spinal injuries in crash

A driver is in hospital with spinal injuries after a serious crash in Port Hedland yesterday.

A police spokeswoman said that a 26 year old man was driving a silver Holden Barina east along Grey Street in Port Hedland about 5.30pm.

"The vehicle has left the road and plunged down a 4m verge, rolling over," she said.

"The driver and passenger managed to exit the Barina and walk approximately 500m to the main road where they called an ambulance.

"The driver received spinal injuries and was taken to the Hedland Health Campus. He will be flown to Perth today by the Royal Flying Doctor Service for further treatment."

A 26-year-old male passenger in the vehicle received minor injuries.
