A woman is being treated for smoke inhalation after fleeing from her burning Maylands unit.

Firefighters were called to the Joseph Street address just after 5.20pm today.

It took crews from Perth and Kiara 14 minutes to contain the blaze.

The woman was treated for smoke inhalation at the scene and taken to hospital as a precaution.

A Department of Fire and Emergency Services spokesperson said the unit was alight but not fully involved when emergency service personnel arrived.

A DFES spokesman said it appeared the woman had been smoking in bed before the fire started.

The damage bill is estimated to be about $150,000.
