Griffith is erasing the past

They announced plans to divorce two weeks ago and Melanie Griffith has shown she is well and truly moving on from husband Antonio Banderas by covering up a famous tattoo of his name on her arm.

Early on in their 18-year marriage, the star had the word "Antonio" inked inside a heart and was regularly photographed sporting the distinctive etching throughout the relationship.

However, Griffith appeared to be making a statement about the split when she stepped out this week in Taormina for the Italian Film Festival with her former lover's name blanked out with thick make-up.

The 56-year-old, who has 17-year-old daughter Stella with Banderas, made no attempt to hide the tattoo, with the heart still prominent but the name only faintly visible underneath the heavy concealer.

Insiders said it was unlikely Griffith had already lasered the name off as it usually takes several sessions to remove such a dark inking.

The couple announced plans to divorce on June 6, citing "irreconcilable differences" as the reason behind the split.

While rumours were swirling that Banderas may have had an affair with actress Natalie Burn, she has since denied any romance with the Spanish star.
