Millions expected to attend Myer sale

Millions of shoppers are expected to take advantage of huge savings as Myer launches its Australia's Biggest Stocktake Sale today, with discounts up to 70 per cent.

Myer predicts three million people will visit its department stores across the country on the first day of the winter sale.

Rival retailer David Jones kicked off its half-yearly clearance two weeks ago.

Reports had suggested that Myer postponed its sale because of the warmer weather and low consumer confidence after the Federal Budget, but Myer WA general manager Kerry Davenport said the decision was based on customer feedback.

"We have listened to our customers and, based on their feedback, we decided to start our Stocktake Sale in mid-June to better suit their needs," Ms Davenport said.

Myer held its first one-day Stocktacular Sale earlier this month, followed by "countdown sales" leading up to its major Stocktake Sale, which ends next month.

Customers had responded well to Stocktacular, with strong traffic throughout WA stores, Ms Davenport said.
