Armed robber cops stick
A staff member at a Bassendean deli has chased off a would-be armed robber with a hockey stick.
The man was in the Walter Road shop when a man entered just after 10.15pm last night and started threatening staff with a syringe.
The staff member grabbed the hockey stick and confronted the robber, who immediately fled the shop and jumped into the drivers seat of a waiting car, which another staff member struck as it took off.
Police eventually located the vehicle outside a house in Lockridge after conducting patrols of the area.
A 21-year-old woman was arrested at the house on an outstanding warrant, while the 25-year-old man was apprehended a short time later after briefly fleeing police.
He was charged with attempted armed robbery and stealing a motor vehicle.
Police said he was taken to Swan Districts Hospital for medical assessment.
The stolen car used in the attempted armed robbery was also seized by police.
