De Silva agrees Roma terms but no Villa for Glory
De Silva agrees Roma terms but no Villa for Glory

Perth Glory have announced the terms of teenager Daniel De Silva's move to Italian club AS Roma.

Glory said the Serie A side has secured the right to sign the 17-year-old attacking midfielder at the end of the 2014/15 A-League season for an undisclosed fee.

De Silva, who made his Glory debut as a 15 year old in 2013, has already represented Australia at both U17 and U20 level

"This is great news for Daniel and also great news for Perth Glory fans. Daniel will continue to play for Perth Glory this coming season as he continues to develop into one of the best footballing talents this country has ever produced," Glory chairman Tony Sage said.

De Silva will join the rest of the squad for pre-season training on June 18.

Meanwhile WA fans won't get the chance to see Spanish star David Villa play in Perth.

Villa will play 10 games with the rebranded Melbourne City from the start of the season before heading to MLS franchise New York City, who are also owned by Manchester City.

The drawing power of the World Cup winner is a potential boon for clubs across the country, but Glory are not scheduled to play Melbourne City until round 13 at AAMI Park and won’t host the club until the final round of the season.

The 2014-15 A-League season begins with Melbourne Victory hosting Western Sydney Wanderers at Etihad Stadium on October 10, with the grand final scheduled for May 10 next year.

Glory’s season opens with their first and only trip to New Zealand against Wellington Phoenix at Westpac Stadium on October 12.

They return to Perth the following week to host champions Brisbane Roar on October 19, the first of 14 home games for the season.

Half of their 14 home games have been scheduled on a Saturday night, something chief executive Jason Brewer said suited the club and their supporters.
