Former cop denies assault

A former police officer has appeared in court charged with assault after an investigation by the Corruption and Crime Commission.

The former First Class Constable is charged with one count of common assault and one count of assault causing bodily harm.

The alleged offences relate to the treatment of two people detained at the Broome police station in March and April 2013.

The former officer pleaded not guilty to both charges in Kalgoorlie Magistrates Court today.

The conduct of officers at the Broome police station was the subject of an extensive investigation by the CCC last year.

Magistrate Andrew Maughan granted an application from defence counsel to suppress the name of the former officer and the two victims of the alleged offences.

The case was adjourned until July 21.
