WA policeman bitten on leg during arrest

A West Australian policeman has allegedly been bitten on the leg while attending an incident on Perth's northern fringe.

Officers went to a Butler home on Sunday evening to arrest a 25-year-old man for breaching a police order.

Police allege the man struggled and bit the right thigh of a constable, who struck his head on the ground, police said.

The man was restrained and charged with obstructing police and assaulting an officer.

He is expected to appear in the Joondalup Magistrates Court later on Monday.

Assaulting a WA police officer incurs a minimum jail term of 12 months for grievous bodily harm, nine months for bodily harm in circumstances of aggravation and six months for bodily harm.

The constable received treatment for minor injuries but didn't undergo testing because the bite didn't break the skin.
