Australia’s Daniel Geale says he has secured a fight against undefeated world middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin in New York next month.

The 33-year-old said on social media on Tuesday that the July 26 title bout at Madison Square Garden had been confirmed.

Kazakh hard-hitter Golovkin had applied for an exemption to bypass mandatory challenger, Queenslander Jarrod Fletcher, in a bid to fight former champion Geale for the WBA belt.

Fletcher's manager Adam Wilcock told thewest.com.au that he had not heard anything from the WBA about Geale being confirmed as Golovkin's opponent.

He said they were approached by Golovkin's K2 promoters last Friday to step aside but had declined.

Golovkin boasts a 29-0 record with 26 knockouts, his most recent against Ghana’s Osumanu Adama in February.

Geale has only fought once since losing his IBF title to Englishman Darren Baker last August - defeating countryman Garth Wood in February.
