Dawson set to hook Trout

UPDATE: WA light-middleweight Daniel Dawson is reportedly one step away from a world title shot after hooking a huge fight with former champion Austin Trout.

Dawson's CDL Promotions backers posted on its Facebook page that Dawson would face Trout in America in a World Boxing Association title eliminator.

The post read: "We a proud to finally announce with the hard work of all involved we have finally broken into the USA waters again with Daniel to face off against trout for an official WBA world title eliminator! Let's put Daniel at our team on the world map once again! Congrats to Dan once again champ!"

Asked about news of the fight, Dawson tweeted: "My team and I are ready! It's my time to shine!"

Earlier, American website South West Fight News had quoted Trout's trainer Louie Burke saying former WBA champion Trout would face Dawson on July 19.

However, Burke did not say where the fight would take place.

Dawson (40-3-1, 26KOs) is unbeaten in four years, after losing consecutive fights to then WBO light-middleweight champion Serhiy Dzinziruk and Aussie Frank LoPorto.

He last fought eight months ago, beating American Alex Buenema at the WA Italian Club. Since then he has undergone shoulder surgery.

Trout (26-2, 14KOs), who defended his title against LoPorto in 2011, won his first 26 fights including a victory over Miguel Cotto.

But he has lost his last two - and in the process his world title - against Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez and Erislandy Lara, who are scheduled to meet in July.

Anthony Mundine was the mandatory challenger to Trout two years ago but opted not to face the New Mexico southpaw.

Dawson, the regional Pan-Asian Boxing Association champion, is ranked 13 by the WBA, with Trout at seven.
