Boat swamped, trio swims to safety

Three men managed to wade to safety after their boat capsized off Broome overnight.

Just after midnight, water police responded to an EPIRB activation off Sandy Point at the southern end of Roebuck Bay.

Marine rescue volunteers eventually spotted debris then found the boat upside down on the beach about 5.30am.

The boat's three occupants, aged 54, 24 and 23, were rescued from the beach at sunrise.

A water police spokesman said the men were uninjured.

"I think they were looking for a creek to pull into for the night and the swell has flipped them over," he said.
