Pitman joins Fever exodus

The fallout from another disappointing West Coast Fever season has continued with recruit Chelsea Pitman to leave the club after only one season.

Pitman was one of two big name recruits lured from the ANZ Championships rival Queensland Firebirds during the off-season, along with star captain Nat Medhurst.

But this afternoon the club revealed that Pitman would not play out the second year of her contract, with Monday night's clash against the Central Pulse at Challenge Stadium to be her last in green and black.

Pitman was the starting wing attack for the first half of the season but has fallen out of favour in recent games, having to come on from the bench.

It is understood Pitman told her teammates of the decision at training yesterday afternoon as her management and Netball WA worked out the details of her exit from her contract.

Pitman says she has decided to take a year away from the game to reassess her future in the sport.

“I am looking forward to using this time to recharge and spend some time away from netball, which has been a big part of my life for a very long time now," she said.

“I’d like to thank Netball WA and all the team for making my time in WA enjoyable and wish them all the success for the future.”

Pitman's departure comes after coach Norma Plummer announced she would stand down after three seasons at the club.

Several more players, including star import Eboni Beckford-Chambers, Chanel Gomes and Shae Bolton, are also out of contract at the end of the season.
