Republic of Ireland striker Andy Keogh is determined to have a major impact in the A-League after joining Perth Glory on a two-year contract.

Keogh was a free agent after being released by English Championship side Millwall last month and the 28-year-old still feels he has plenty left to give.

The former Leeds, Wolves, Cardiff and Scunthorpe front man shapes as an ideal replacement for marquee striker Shane Smeltz, who has left Glory for Sydney FC.

Keogh said he had always wanted to play overseas and did not want to leave the move until it was too late.

“I didn’t want to be one of those players, the cliché of going to the MLS (United States) or the A-League at the end of their career,” Keogh told thewest.com.au.

“I wanted to go now, give it a good shot and see what comes of it.

“I’m going to bring energy, work rate, goals and quality to the front play.”

Keogh said he had been impressed with Glory’s ambition and plans to turn their fortunes around following a horror 2013-14 season.

Keogh is due to arrive in Perth with wife Natalie and their nine-year-old daughter in time for the start of Glory’s pre-season training program on June 18.

Keogh’s wage will fit under the salary cap, with Glory chief executive Jason Brewer confirming the club will not fill either of the two available marquee roster spots next season.

Keogh is the fourth player to join Glory since Kenny Lowe was appointed as coach last month.

The club has recruited proven A-League players Diogo Ferreira, Dino Djulbic and Youssouf Hersi during a busy off-season.

Goalkeeper Danny Vukovic will return to the club next week after ending his loan spell at J-League club Vegalta Sendai.
