Zadkovich next in Glory's sights

Newcastle Jets have released captain Ruben Zadkovich from the final year of his contract, paving the way for Perth Glory to pounce on the experienced midfielder.

Zadkovich has spent the past four seasons at Newcastle, but could be lured west by the security of a multi-year contract.

“The decision to release Ruben from the remainder of his current contract was not one that was made lightly,” Newcastle chief executive Robbie Middleby said.

“An offer came in from another club and after discussions with Ruben and his management we reached an agreement for the release as we were unable to match the terms offered.

Zadkovich would be an ideal replacement for outgoing Glory skipper Jacob Burns, who bid an emotional farewell to the club when he announced his retirement at the end of the season just finished.

Glory have already recruited midfielder Diogo Ferreira, defender Dino Djulbic and Dutch winger Youssouf Hersi during a busy off-season.

The club is set to confirm the signing of 28-year-old former English Premier League striker Andy Keogh this week.
