Crash driver on drug charges

The driver of a car involved in a single-vehicle crash yesterday morning has been charged with drug possession.

Police say the man's rented Chrysler sedan left South Coast Highway 70km west of Raventhorpe at about 5.30am and hit a rock before coming to rest in scrub.

The 26-year-old driver was trapped inside the vehicle when police arrived.

He was not seriously injured but was taken to hospital as a precaution.

Police searched the man's clothing while he was being treated and allegedly found a clip seal bag containing 13.6gm of amphetamine and more than $4,500 cash.

Albany detectives charged the East Victoria Park man with possession of amphetamine with intent to sell or supply and unlawful possession.

He is due to appear in the Albany Magistrates Court on June 19.
