Nigerian conman miserable in jail

A Nigerian conman accused of murdering a WA grandmother and scamming her out of nearly $100,000 has spoken of how unhappy he is in jail.

Jesse Omokoh, 29, was arrested in Lagos in February over the death and fraud of Wagin woman Jette Jacobs, who sent him more than $90,000 before her death in South Africa in 2012.

Ms Jacobs, 67, had moved to Johannesburg to live with Mr Omokoh, but her body was found in her villa just days after he arrived in the country.

In a recording of a Nigerian Police interview broadcast by _60 Minutes _ last night, Mr Omokoh complained of having to celebrate his birthday in prison.

"I don't feel happy, this is the first birthday I'll be celebrating with none of my family members around," he said.

WA major fraud squad Det-Sen. Sgt Dom Blackshaw said Mr Omokoh's predatory intent was clear and he was "quite obviously a despicable human being".
