A tourist may require plastic surgery after being savagely attacked outside a city backpackers' hostel today.
The 29-year-old man was sharing a bottle of wine with a friend outside a Stirling Street hostel at 5.30am when the attack happened.
Police say a group of five men walked past the pair before turning back to confront them.

The injured tourist was taken to Royal Perth Hospital with cuts to his head and face. Police say the injuries to his face may require plastic surgery.
Police want to speak to anyone who witnessed the attack or who saw a group of dark-skinned males in the area at the time.
